Life below sea level

We live below sea level in the Zaan region. We have been doing this for centuries, due to the cleaving of the peat soil. In order to maintain dry feet, it was necessary to survey the falling land and keep it dry with the help of polder mills (by Zaankanters invariably called water mills).
